Waldemar Kopyl - 10th place finisher

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Down to his last 220,000 in chips Waldermar Kopyl shoved in with J-3 off-suit and was called by Ace Six from the blinds. After the flop of 226 Waldermar was drawing thin but did pick up some outs in the 5 turn. However the river missed all of his draws and he is out in 10th place, taking home 50,000 Euros.

ThePlayr TV caught up with him after his unfortunate exit, here is the interview:

Matthias Kurschner out in 11th

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Matthias Kurschner open shoved for 228k UTG+1 with K6hh and was called by the Ace King of Holger Kanisch. After the flop of black 533 Matthias was drawing to a running straight or one of three remaining 6’s. The turn brought the A of hearts and that put the last nail firmly in the coffin of Mattias Kurschner and he is out 11th place finisher, taking home 33,300 Euros.

Sandra Naujoks doubles up

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Sandra Naujoks has been fairly quiet all day, finding spots here and there to build up her stack, but generally staying out the way. Just a moment ago she got all in before the flop with Mike McDonald and doubled up-finally giving her a healthy stack and a very strong chance of making the final table.

11 players remain.

Mike McDonald is a sicko - cold 4-bet PF

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Keeping his cool after getting two outed on the river by A2 with his AK Timex has continued to build his stack. Just now putting Florian Langmann to a huge test before the flop after Langmann 3-bet Marc Gork from the small blind. Langmann thought for a very long time before finally letting it go. We don’t know if Timex was bluffing but I think its fair to say his range may have been huge here. What a sicko.

Timex gets a nasty beat

Friday, March 13th, 2009
It is unclear how the money went into the post but Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald and Mykola Chornyi were all in before the river with McDonald holding AK and Chornyi holding A2 on a K2xx board. The 2 hit the river and Chornyi has doubled up.

Andres Hoivold out 13th

Friday, March 13th, 2009
The Norwegian was sliding the last couple of orbits and lost some big pots-he’s finally been done in and has only 25,000 Euros to show for his efforts.

He moved in with Ace King before the flop and lost to Johan Storaker who is running great and currently the chipleader with over 900,000 in chips.

Steve Jelinek Eng and Richard Kellett out, 15th and 14th

Friday, March 13th, 2009
After his KK vs QQ hand nearly crippled him, Richard Kellett’s run at the EPT Dortmund can to an end a few hands later, the Brit walking away with 20,000 Euro’s, Jelinek Eng taking home 25,000 Euro’s for his 14th place finish.

Richard Kellett doubles up Johan Storakers

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Richard Kellett was flying high as one of the chipleaders and playing great poker, but sometimes the poker gods are cruel and vicious. He got dealt two queens versus the two kinds of Johan Storakers and the two quickly found themselves all-in before the flop. The board brought not help for Kellett and he’s lost a significant amount of chips. He still has over 200,000 though and plenty of room to maneuver heading to the final table. Storakers on the other hand is now a force to be reckoned with. The Swedish player is over 600,000 chips and if not the chipleader, he is certainly one of them.

Timex the chipleader

15 players remain.

Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald eliminates a player

Friday, March 13th, 2009
The defending champ called a pre-flop all-in after Richard Kellett raised in middle position and and a third player (we’ll try to get his name) went all-in next to act. Timex called in the blinds and Richard folded his pocket jacks face up. Timex held QQ and the all-in player held AK off-suit.

Since Timex runs like god we all know what happens next. The board came down brick and we are down to 15 players, and the Canadian pro is poised to make back-to-back EPT Dortmund final tables, and maybe a lot more.

Tables re-drawn, play resumes

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Before the re-draw the majority of the stars were at the feature table - however the redraw pretty evenly distributed the star power and the large chip stacks between the feature and out tables.

The outer table features Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald, Andreas Hoivold, Marc Gork, Richad Kellett, and Sandra Naujoks. The feature table has William Thorson, Luca Pagano and our current chipleader, Cengizcan Ulusu from Turkey.

Expect to see some fireworks with such deep stacks and talented players left in the field.

Dinner Break - Photos and Videos

Friday, March 13th, 2009
With 16 players left there will be a re-draw with two tables of eight. The players are currently on a 60-minute dinner break and then will come back and play down to the final table.

Here are some pictures and videos from the day to keep you busy until play resumes:

Nobody argues with William Thorson

Friday, March 13th, 2009
After one of his cards may have been exposed by the dealer-with nobody but Thorson claiming to have seen such a thing-Thorson called for the floorman to come over. With his winning smile he explained what he thought had happened and the floorman instantly told the dealer to expose Thorsons card (the jack of hearts) and continue dealing-dealing Thorson what would have been the burn card, and using the Jack as the burn card.

Maybe a mere mortal would have had a rougher time getting such a ruling, but not the affable and popular Thorson, he merely has to speak, and the tournament staff, and indeed many of the players and press, jump.

Upon receiving the second card Thorson promptly mucked his hand and began laughing and chatting to the table.

Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald holding steady

Friday, March 13th, 2009
The defending champ has stayed quiet all day at the feature table, he has 320,000 now after starting the day with 340,000. This after going up and down like a yo-yo for much of the tournament until today.

Down to 20 players, Marc Gork rushing

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Two players busted back to back at Andreas Hoivold’s side table, the first Marc Gork caught a very lucky ten on the river to eliminate a player-and let out a huge scream probably heard outside the casino. The very next hand the small blind shoved all in ona short stack big blind who called and the SB won a race with K8 vs A3.

We are now at 20 players and by the way today has gone so far, it is hard to imagine we wont have the final table set before 10pm.

Many stars in the field still including William Thorson, Mike McDonald, Andreas Hoivold, Luca Pagano, Sandra Naujoks along with our prediction to make the final table, the hyper aggressive brit Richard Kellett, who has taken down several pots in the last half hour with big all-in three bets before the flop.

Alessandro Meoni out in 25th place

Friday, March 13th, 2009
The Italian caught an unlucky river card and has to settle for a very respectable 26th place finish, making the final three tables. 24 players remain, with blinds of 4000/8000 and a 100 ante. Average stack of 277,916-according to the tournament clock here on the casino floor.

Jan Collado-Fernandez doubles through William Thorson

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Both players got it in pre-flop, Jan Collado-Fernandez held 77 and Thorson KQ. After the board came down QQ7xx Collado-Fernandez’s full house beat the three queens of Thorson and the young German has double up. Here is a video of the hand taking place:

Richard Kellett playing aggressive and confident

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Facing a raise from the Marc Gork in the small blind Kellett moved in from the big blind and the frustrated Gork folded his hand face up, showing pocket 3’s - and began mumbling in German, obviously irritated with the aggressive play of the fearless young brit. Kellett showed an ace and folded his hand, smirking a bit as he stacked his new found chips.
